MaxMSP Assignment 1
Part 1 - Tutorials
Go to Help menu, then choose "User Guide", which will open a new window named Documentation. There, scroll down to Tutorials, and click on "Working with Max". This will open a browser window with the tutorials. At the top of the page, click "Download series Content and Patchers". Finally, on the left, complete Max tutorials 1-6.
Once done, in MaxMSP, go back to the Help menu, and choose "User Guide". Scrolle to Tutorials, and click on "Working with Audio. The bowser will open with the MSP tutorials. Again, at the top of the page, click "Download series Content and Patchers". Finally, on the left, complete MSP tutorials 1 and 2.
Note that once you've click on "Download series Content and Patchers" for both Max and MSP, the tutorials will appear in the Help menu under "Tutorials".
Part 2 - Patch (try your best)
Make a very simple synth that is controlled by the keys of your keyboard.
• The keys A, S, D, F, G, H, J ,K should make a major scale, with A set to middle C (MIDI note 60).
• The sound of the synth should be a simple sine tone.
• There should a final volume control.
Use the following objects:
key, sel, message, number, mtof, float, sig~, cycle~, live-gain~, dac~, number~
***IMPORTANT: I will ask you to take a screenshot of your patch and AirDrop it to me next class. It's OK if your patch doesn't work, or if you are confused. I just want to see that you tried.
Challenge
Add a few objects so that you can choose between a sine tone or a sawtooth waveform with a low-pass filter.
Use the following objects:
selector~, toggle, +, phasor~, biquad~, filtergraph~
Hint: don't be scared to copy large portions of the help file.
